Gift
Of Tourette
(SUNG TO THE TUNE OF "UNANSWERED PRAYERS")
original
lyrics performed by Garth Brooks
Just
some of the gifts Tourette has given me, at the TSFC Conference 2000
in St. John's, Newfoundland (from left, Duncan McKinlay, Francois
Parent, Marie Brien, Steve Radke).
7’s
when we met, at 19 I learned its name.
The doctor called it Tourette, said others had the same.
And on the bus ride back home, I cried and cursed my life,
I wondered how I’d earned this, alone and in such strife.
I
wanted it gone, asked the doctor for a pill,
But no matter what I tried, this thing stayed with me still.
I begged to God for mercy, I’d do anything he’d say
as long as he would make this go away.
But
now I thank God for not answering that prayer.
For borne of all that pain was a whole lot of gain.
Even though he didn’t answer,
it didn’t mean he didn’t care.
God's greatest gift to me was leaving Tourette right there.
I
learned to understand it, and made it my new friend.
It wasn’t the beast I’d first thought --
it had strengths to send.
It taught me how to make the most of
what you have and who you are.
And armed with that frame of mind you’ll go so far.
And
as I stand here now, with you my family I’ve met
For my success I thank the Good Lord
For the gift of Tourette.
So
now I thank God for not answering that prayer.
For borne of all that pain was a whole lot of gain.
Even though he may not answer,
it doesn’t mean he don’t care.
God's greatest gift to me was leaving Tourette
God’s greatest gift to me was just leaving Tourette
God’s greatest gift to me
Was leaving Tourette right there.
