Teal

Teal (age 7) makes jokes about his TS and is quite light hearted about the whole thing. But, it does hurt his feelings when he finally tells teachers, coachs etc. about his TS and they don't believe him. To help conquer this obstacle he wrote a poem and has requested that his father have it printed on business cards that he can hand out. Here is his poem.

THIS IS ME

I have a neurological disorder
It's known as Tourette syndrome
I make funny faces and little noises
But, it doesn't mean I'm dumb

Sometimes my speech is very loud
and I stumble in mid-sentence
Sometimes this disorder is very mild
and sometimes it's quite intense

It's not a joke and not a lie
I assure you it's quite real
So please don't make fun of me
'Cause I still have the ability to feel
